This week's wave — two demands, one voice
This week (23–29 October 2026), 100 social-media posts about Mundari were studied — Instagram 37, Facebook 44, Threads 9, YouTube 10. The biggest wave among them was a single two-part demand. Let it be clear: this is a demand — no post reported it being granted.
Include Mundari in the Eighth Schedule
Mundari should get a place in the Eighth Schedule of India's Constitution — so that it receives the same status Santali already has.
Second official language of Odisha
Mundari should be given the status of Odisha's second official language — these were the two numbered demands written on the posters.
The big Ulgulan rally
A large, peaceful rally was held under the banner of the Mundari Language Co-ordination Committee (MLCC), Saraskana Block Unit. According to one newspaper (Orissa Times, 28 Oct), more than 10,000 people from 17 gram panchayats walked from Saraskana Haat Ground to the block office and submitted memorandums addressed to the Chief Minister, the Prime Minister and the Home Minister.
Newspaper figure The 10,000 number is the newspaper's — it has not been independently verified. At least 8 Instagram posts of this same rally were found; they are different angles of one event, not separate events.
A wave of memorandums
In Khunta block and Gopabandhu Nagar (GB Nagar) block, MLCC block units took out rallies and handed memorandums to officials. Through the rain, reels and photos of the processions in white traditional dress, carrying banners, circulated all day. Pictures of a memorandum being presented to an official along with a bouquet of flowers were shared by many accounts from Khunta.
A meeting, and an announcement ahead
News came of a meeting of the Mundari Sahitya Parishad in Ranchi, and on 26 October newspapers carried news of the Birsanagar Munda Mahasammelan. Alongside this, an announcement is also circulating of a big gathering in Ranchi on 3 November — that gathering is not for Mundari alone, but for three languages: Santali, Mundari and Ho.
This week's posts — by theme
Rally / memorandum 40 · Song / music 20 · Language demand / Eighth Schedule 15 · Learning / language 10 · Culture / festival 7 · Other 8 — total 100 posts.
Old material, flagged Some old items were also reposted this week — a Saraskana photo from 27 October 2024, an MLCC flyer from 2017, and a Rajya Sabha clip from 2025. Do not treat these as new events; they are clearly flagged in the data source. This collection is based on a systematic search — it does not claim to catch every post on the internet (the Instagram sweep runs up to about 1:18 pm on 29 October).
